Medical Secretary – Veterinarian

Marie BOURBIN’s path has been anything but a straight line. She had always dreamed of becoming a veterinarian. As her ranking did not allow her to enter veterinary studies in France, she decided, at just 18, to move to Belgium. There she worked as a waitress to obtain Belgian residency and gain admission to the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Liège. This period, far from the traditional academic route, taught her a great deal: autonomy, adaptability and perseverance – in short, “the school of life”.

After many years of study, she fulfilled her dream and became a veterinarian, with a mixed, predominantly rural practice. She practised for a year and a half with total commitment and a deep love for her profession and for animals. But this first experience also led her to burnout and to a profound questioning of herself, on every level.

It was in this context that she joined FunMedDev. Its director was able to see beyond her difficulties at the time and recognised a potential she could no longer see in herself. Marie then agreed to try something completely different: becoming a secretary, while keeping her identity and knowledge as a veterinarian on a complementary basis. What started as a trial turned out to be a real turning point: this change of role allowed her to step back, discover other facets of how an organisation works and, above all, rediscover meaning and enjoyment in her working life, supported by an outstanding team.

At FunMedDev, she discovered and deepened a rethought vision of preventive medicine, focused on the overall well-being of patients. Her ambition: to put this unique path at the service of the network’s patients and physicians, with the same perseverance that has carried her this far.
